Lahser’s Deaf and Hard of Hearing Department currently has thirty-six students. These students, representing all four grade levels, come from various school districts in Oakland County. Lahser’s program represents the secondary level of Bloomfield Hill’s Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center Program. Students enrolled in this program take courses in the general education curriculum and self-contained class in the department. The department offers approximately fifty courses in the core curriculum including Language Arts, Science, Math, and Social Studies. Elective courses are also available.

Currently, the program consists of six teachers certified to teach the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. We also have one counselor for the deaf who also works with students on transition and vocational education. Six sign language interpreters currently work at Lahser accompanying students to their general education classes. The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Department is ever growing and changing to meet Michigan’s graduation requirements and the needs of our students.
