Choir - 2009 News & Updates

UPCOMING EVENTS:
Tuesday, December 15th

Winter Choir/Orchestra Concer
7:30pm  in the Lahser Auditorium

  • Congratulations to Cathryn Scott (10th grade) and Olivia Ward (12th grade) on their acceptance into MSVMA Honors Choir for this year! Auditions took place Saturday, October 24th at Anchor Bay High School. Both girls had to memorize a piece, perform it at an audition and then sight-read some new music. They will be rehearsing and performing throughout the year with other students from all over Michigan.
Knightingales
Knightingales is an all-women's ensemble, open by audition to all female students, including incoming freshmen. Auditions are held in the spring for the following year. All interested 8th grade students from both East Hills and Bloomfield Hills Middle School who are members of their 8th grade choirs may audition.

Past musical experience is helpful but not required. This ensemble learns and performs two-and three-part music of all eras and styles, in addition to learning music theory, music history, and the basics of healthy singing. Students in this ensemble may participate in the District Choral Festival, and are encouraged to participate in the Solo and Ensemble Festival, and the all-school musical.

Lahser Chorale
Lahser Chorale is a mixed ensemble that is recommended for students of all levels of musical ability. Past musical experience is helpful but not required. This ensemble learns and performs two-and three-part music of all eras and styles, in addition to learning music theory, music history, and the basics of healthy singing. Students in this ensemble will participate in the District Choral Festival, and are encouraged to participate in the Solo and Ensemble Festival, as well as the all-school musical. Ninth-grade boys should elect this choir; ninth-grade girls should elect Knightingales.

Knightsingers
Knightsingers is the select choral ensemble open by sprin audition to juniors and seniors, and, in rare cases, sophomores. Students are expected to have significant experience with choral singing and to have spent at least one year in either the Lahser Chorale or Knightingales. Private voice instruction is highly recommended. This ensemble studies a more challenging repertoire of all eras and styles, and performs at community events in addition to school-sponsored concerts and festivals. All students are expected to participate in Solo and Ensemble Festival, and are encouraged to participate in the all-school musical.
