Knightingales is an all-women's ensemble, open by audition to all female students, including incoming freshmen. Auditions are held in the spring for the following year. All interested 8th grade students from both East Hills and Bloomfield Hills Middle School who are members of their 8th grade choirs may audition.
is a mixed ensemble that is recommended for students of all levels of musical ability. Past musical experience is helpful but not required. This ensemble learns and performs two-and three-part music of all eras and styles, in addition to learning music theory, music history, and the basics of healthy singing. Students in this ensemble will participate in the District Choral Festival, and are encouraged to participate in the Solo and Ensemble Festival, as well as the all-school musical. Ninth-grade boys should elect this choir; ninth-grade girls should elect Knightingales.
Knightsingers is the select choral ensemble open by sprin audition to juniors and seniors, and, in rare cases, sophomores. Students are expected to have significant experience with choral singing and to have spent at least one year in either the Lahser Chorale or Knightingales. Private voice instruction is highly recommended. This ensemble studies a more challenging repertoire of all eras and styles, and performs at community events in addition to school-sponsored concerts and festivals. All students are expected to participate in Solo and Ensemble Festival, and are encouraged to participate in the all-school musical. 1.Perform quality choral literature at the highest possible level.
2.Develop musical literacy and fluency in melody, harmony, rhythm, dynamics, articulation, phrasing, and tone color.
3.Apply literacy and technique to musical insight, interpretation and style.
4.Foster aesthetic development and appreciation of music as an art form.
5.Develop a professional atmosphere through maximum time efficiency and focus in rehearsal and other settings.
