In celebration of black history month, Lahser departments are incorporating black history awareness into their class studies.
This is a unique educational opportunity for all of our students.
Black History Month in
Social Studies Department
The Social Studies Department will be celebrating Black History Month throughout its classes. World Studies, will be learning about the history of Africa. American Studies, will be discussing the role of African Americans in World War II. AP US History, will be discussing the Civil Rights Movement and it's impact today. Students in various Social Studies Classes have also put up posters throughout the school detailing the lives of significant Africa Americans throughout all aspects of American life. AP Government students will research and discuss the ramifications of several key pieces of legislation throughout US History. |

Directed Studies Department
The Directed Studies Department has some exciting ideas planned for Black History Month. In Mrs. Dougherty’s Language Class, the student’s are choosing an aspect of Black History, and writing a report. In Ms. Jenkin's Math Concept class, students will be researching famous African American Mathematicians. Mrs. Valentine's class has a bulletin board designated to Black History Month, which features famous African Americans who have made contributions to society and have had an impact on America today. |
Black History Month in the Visual Arts Department
The Visual Arts Department is working with groups of art students to create a three panel mural that will communicate Black History from slavery to civil rights to the present. Our goal is to educate through a visual story. The mural will be located in the Media center. It is our hope that it will be completed by the end of this school year. |
