Olympic Events - Rules and Regulations
EVENT
1.
Basketball (3 people)

Rules:
Basketball will be played tournament (bracket) style with random seeding. 
• It will be played half-court and the first team to 11 points (win by 2) will win. 
• Successful 3-pointers will be awarded 2 points and all other successful baskets will be awarded 1 point. 
• Offensive fouls will result in a change of possession and defensive fouls will result in 1 free-throw shot. 
• If a missed shot hits the rim and is recovered by the other team, the other team must bring the ball back to the top of the 3-point line. 
• All fouls will be called by the referee.  Winners keep possession of the ball.

2.
Volleyball (6 people

Rules:
• Volleyball will be played tournament style with random seeding. 
• There will be rally scoring (every point counts) and the first team to 15 points (win by 2) wins. 
• Teams must hit the volleyball over to the other side using no more than 3 hits. 
• Serves will count if they hit the net and go over. 
• Players are not allowed to: spike back a serve, hold the ball, touch the net, or reach over to the other team’s side.  • A coin toss will be used to determine which team serves first.

Rock Band (4 people)

Rules:
• Rock Band will be played using a percentage-based point system. 
• At the end of the song, all the individual percentages of each band member will be added together. 
• There will be a penalty for using a difficulty lower than expert. 
• The penalties will be as follows: Expert = -0%, Hard = -10%, Medium = -20% and Easy = -30%.  Therefore, the highest score a team can receive is 400 points (every band member receives 100% on expert difficulty). 
• The band with the highest score wins. 
• Teams can choose any song they want and can either bring their own Rock Band instruments or use those provided for them.

EVENT
4.
Eating Contest (1 person)

Rules:
• All contestants will eat at the same time. 
• Each contestant will have 3 minutes to eat as many chocolate-chip Costco cookies as he/she can. 
• All the eating contest contestants will have a person assigned to count how many cookies he/she eats. 
• Water will be provided, as well as buckets in case the contestant needs to vomit. 
• If a contestant vomits during the 3 minute eating period, he/she is automatically disqualified.

EVENT
5.
Ping-pong (1 person)

Rules:
• Ping-pong will be played tournament style with random seeding. 
• The first person to 21 (win by 2) will win. 
• Players will “shoot” for first serve by trying to throw the ping-pong ball onto the opponent’s paddle. 
• Players will switch serving every 5 serves. 
• There will be “dead man” serving, meaning on match point the player who is losing will serve. 
• Serves must hit your paddle, then your side of the table, and then your opponent’s side of the table. 
• If a serve hits the net and goes over, the player will redo the serve. 
• If a serve hits the net and does not go over, the player will lose the point.

EVENT
6.
Triathion (3 people)

Rules:
• The triathlon will be done relay style and will start off in the pool.  
• Contestants will start out in the pool touching the wall and will swim 6 laps (there and back 3 times). 
• After completing 6 laps, they will get out of the pool and run to the gym entrance doors to tag their teammate participating in the second triathlon event, the bicycle race. 
• All bicyclists must bring their own bike and helmet. 
• They will start-off right outside the gym entrance doors and will begin the race when they are tagged by the swimmer. 
• They will follow the trail explained to them, and marked off with cones, by a Student Council member. 
• The trail will end at the top of the hill by the track. 
• Once at the top of the hill, the bicyclist will tag their teammate participating in the third and final triathlon event, the ½ mile (2 lap) run. 
• The runners will start-off at the top of the hill and will run down to the track after being tagged by the bicyclist.  They will then run to the right once on the track and will complete two laps after passing the starting point (in front of the visitor bleachers). 
• The team with the runner who crosses the finish line first will be the winner.

EVENT
7.
Math Off (2 people)

Rules:
• The Math Off will be done in a relay style.
• Contestants will be seated next to each other.
• There are a series of five questions in which the answer to question one, is used as a variable in the question two. • • The answer to question two is needed to answer question three and so on until the fifth question is answered.
• When the fifth question has been answered, contestants will hand their answer to their proctor and the time will be noted as well as accuracy.
• If the answer is wrong, the proctor will give back the answer to the contestants and ask them to continue working as the time continues to tick.
• The team that gets the correct answer the quickest will be awarded as the winner.

8.
Quiz Bowl (2 people)

Rules:
• Quiz Bowl will be ran in a jeopardy format with six categories and five questions each.
• Students will have to buzz their buzzer in order to answer the particular question.
• After buzzing, they are allotted three seconds to answer the question.
• If they are to answer incorrectly, points will be deducted accordingly and the team to buzz in second will be given the opportunity to answer the question next.

EVENT
9.
Dance Off (6 people)

Rules:
• The Dance Off will take place during the Charity Week assembly and will consist of the two highest scoring teams.  • The winning team will be awarded 4 points and the losing team will be awarded 0 points. 
• Teams will choose their own clean song to dance to (Student Council must approve the song). 
•  The judging panel will consist of the student council advisors, the three principals and four students from council (one from each grade).
• They will be graded on creativity, synchronization, entertainment, and effort/preparation.

S C O R I N G
(for everything except the dance-off):
  Point values for events are as follows:

1st place = 4 points
2nd place = 3 points
3rd place = 2 points
4th place = 1 point


If there is a tie, the points for those two places will be added
and divided by tied number of tied teams.

Team with highest cumulative points will become Olympic Champions
