Ice Cream Social Event

Community Read
Ice Cream Social and Raffle

In the LHS Cafeteria
Wednesday,
May 28th
at 6:30 pm- 8:30 pm

Thanks to a meeting with a few parents, we have decided to have an ice cream social for our final event. Ice cream, of course, represents Alaska and social contrasts the isolation of Chris McCandless. Ironic, one student observed, that we are reading a book about isolation to bring us together. We will discuss, view pictures, commemorate with a tree planting and raffle off a kayak, snowshoes and NorthFace fleece.
YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN!

I look forward to meeting with all of you, and thank you for your wonderful support.

What is a Community Read all about
LHS journeyed Into the Wild with Jon Krakauer and Community Read, providing an opportunity for all students, parents and faculty to engage in meaningful dialogue and reinforce the intellectual and relational benefits of reading. Our Community Read events are designed to spark student interest, simulated outdoor challenges and offered students the opportunity to test their survival skills.

This is one parent’s response to the intial question:

What is it about the wild (nature) that attracts us?
Going into the wild; what an awesome thought. It is a very free feeling and also intimidating at the same time. Can we survive? Do we possess the tools and personal fortitude? This book, Into the Wild, is captivating and full of very thought provoking themes. A good read
