"Haiti Shakes Lahser"
Tuesday, February 16th
Prior to lunch on Tuesday, February 16th, during seminar time, Lahser students were shown a video which depicts the results of the tragedy in Haiti along with a message from the student council.
In the subsequent lunch periods, the cafeteria served students and teachers a lunch that was similar to those being provided by relief organizations in Haiti. For an additional $1, they got a refillable cup of water. Volunteer teachers helped serve the meals in a mess-hall-style line - wrapped containers of beans, corn, cornbread, and rice and an orange- and helped serve water in lieu of the usual softdrinks and juice.
Table tents helped remind students of the large scale devastation in Haiti by comparing the staggering statistics to our student population.
Students were also invited to reflect on the experience by sharing what they are thankful for on a banner that will be posted near the cafeteria. "As an internationally minded school community, we hope to encourage one another to be caring and reflective."
