Red Ribbon Week
at Lahser High School

Red Ribbon Week is a United States initiative of prevention and education about
the dangers of drugs and alcohol.
During this week in October,
students all over the country make pledges
to live drug and alcohol free.

Please take note that Red Ribbon Week is signified by the large red ribbon in Lahser’s front lobby.

The first Red Ribbon Celebration was organized in 1986 by the concern about the destruction caused by alcohol and drug abuse within our communities. The red ribbon was adopted as a symbol of the movement in honor of Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, an agent with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration who was kidnapped and killed while investigating drug traffickers in Mexico. The problem was so great in Mexico that some of their government officials and police force were assisting the illegal drug trade. The over-twenty year campaign has reached millions of people and has been recognized by the U.S. Congress.

“Red Ribbon Week is a chance to be visible and vocal in our desire for a drug-free community,” and is sponsored by the Lahser SADD Club. Research shows that people who don’t use drugs are better equipped to deal with the stress in life because their thinking is clearer and they enjoy life more.

The Lahser SADD club hopes that each of you are happy and enjoy life
without the complications that drugs can bring
