Meeting called to order: 9:35 am
- Caroline Roberts approved the October minutes and Pam Ferguson seconded the motion.
- Jan Wahl reported that we are currently 105% over and above our fund raising projections, due to a carryover of $14,000 from last year. The pie fundraiser had 5 orders. Caroline said she would have a table at conferences for parents to sign up their Kroger cards.
- Charlie Hollerith gave a flu update, stating that the school averages 40-50 cases of students being out sick for the day. Now the number of students is averaging between 65 to 70. The district is putting in Purell hand sanitizing stations in each classroom soon.
- Quarter grades came out last Friday. If your student is struggling, they need to take advantage of the tutorial services available after school.
- Parent teacher conferences are this week, freshman are to lead the conferences with their parents.
- Last week, 100 students participated in Challenge Day, which promotes inclusiveness among students in high school. The school received a grant from the Township Fire Department to support this National Organization that travels to schools promoting gender, racial and religious inclusiveness.
- A new graduation requirement that will be acted upon by the school board this Thursday, is all students must take the Michigan Merit exam. It will be taken as part of the ACT for Juniors.
- Next year, the teachers schedule will change from instructing 5 classes this year, to teaching 6 classes. We may need to look at revising the bell schedule to accommodate those changes.
- Charlie gave the PTO 2 items that he would like us to purchase for the school this year. The cafeteria needs a new sound system. Many booster groups and clubs use the cafeteria for meetings and a new sound system would be very helpful. The approximate cost is $2400.00. Also the school will need supplemental resources for the IB program in the Media Center which the PTO could help fund.
- Terri thanked everyone who donated blood for the blood drive and commended the student council for their efficiency in organizing the blood drive. Also a reminder to those who joined PTO, to pick up their directories in the office. An addendum will be available for all students to pick up in the office, for the corrections to the directory.
- Caroline asked if anyone had any fundraising ideas, to let her know.
Meeting adjourned at 10:15 am
Parent Networking Notes:
- Charlie introduced Avis Najor as the new Athletic Director. Avis was previously from Brother Rice.
- Avis stressed to the parents that the students need to know that academics is their first priority before athletics. The coaches are required to monitor the grades of their athletes. They must be passing 66% of their classes or 5 out of 7 classes and must have 3 C’s or better.
- The athletes must attend tutorial program if their grades are not meeting the requirements.
- Avis is initiating a women’s strength and conditioning club this year. He has a lot of his own equipment at Brother Rice that he plans on moving to Lahser.
- Boys basketball tryouts are currently going on.
- Girls volleyball and golf did a great job.
- Girls swimming is doing great.
