Lahser High School - Leadership, Honor & Scholarship

Community Service Information Sheet

Students have two options for completing their community service.
  1. The minimum option is 40 hours.
This service satisfies the graduation requirement, however, it does not give credit as an elective.

2. The 100 hour option.

This option satisfies the graduation requirement and gives ½ elective credit toward the 24 credits necessary to graduate. This service may be completed during the school day or as agreed upon by the agency and the school.

A list of approved agencies within Bloomfield Hills and surrounding communities is available for students to choose from. Students may develop their own project with guidance from the coordinator. Church or synagogue sponsored community outreach projects may also count, however, they cannot be religious in nature.

All contracts must be approved in writing by the coordinator prior to the student’s starting work. No hours will count until an approved contract is on file with the coordinator. Community service must be completed by May 1st of their senior year.

Within one month after completing their hours, students are required to fill out an evaluation, attend a group meeting, and write about the service learning experience in a reflection paper.

Students may earn up to three elective credits in Community service. Successive placements for credit beyond the initial ½ credit must be within significantly different areas or be upgraded experience for the student.
