Principal's Leadership Award Winner -- Allison Drutchas

The 2007 Principal's Leader Award goes to senior, Allison Drutchas. Allison was one of 100 national winners chosen from among approximately 4,500 applicants. This is a great honor for both Allison and Lahser High School.

Lahser Choir gives an Outstanding Performance
Knightengales make Lahser History
Lahser Orchestra students excel with Division I and II ratings at MSBOA
Congratulations to the members of the Lahser Choirs on their outstanding performances over the weekend at State Solo and Ensemble Festival. Soloists Olivia Ward, Nick Ward, Kristen Dittus, Jen Morgan, Jennifer Bander, Bo-Young Kim and Amanda Sultan attended, bringing home four first division ratings and three second division ratings.

The Knightsingers also earned a division rating for an excellent performance, and the Knightengales, consisting mostly of freshman, make Lahser history by attending State Solo and Ensemble for the first time, and bringing home first division ratings for an excellent performance.

Orchestra students were recognized for their achievements at the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA) State Solo and Ensemble Festival on Saturday, March 24th:
Division I rating: Jessica Jou, cello; Erika Mayer, viola; Jimmy Park, violin; Tiasha Nandi, piano; Emily Hill, cello
Division II rating: Lindsey Bander, violin and piano; Abigail Wagner, viola; Peter Youn, violin

Erika Mayer was selected for the Michigan Youth Arts Orchestra (an orchestra assembled from across the state of Michigan) for the second year in a row!

Bloomfield United High School Figure Skating "Team A" Received the Gold
CONGRATULATIONS:
Bloomfield United High School Figure Skating Team A received the gold medal team award at the state championship
This event held was held at the Detroit Skating Club this past weekend (March 31st, 2007). Students from Lahser, Andover and International Academy are members of the team. Lahser students include: Lauren Beltowski, Daniel Eaton, Megan Gueli, Natasha Krawinkel, Michelle Lowell, Jamie Rhodes, Ameena Sheikh and Sameena Sheikh

Students Recognized by Detroit Free Press
CONGRATULATIONS:
Congratulations to the seven Lahser students for top honors as part of its Newspapers in Education program
Printed excerpts of their winning Letters to the Editor appeared in the newspaper on March 13th, 14th, and 15th. 

Published writers are John Spangler, Allison Foell, Lauren Dugas, James Chuang, Abigail Wagner, Bonnie Johnson, and Aleksandra Leyzerovskaya. 

Also recognized for outstanding entries were Sara Dunn, Julian Fiander, Jennifer Gerard, Emily McAlister, Alexis Shandler,  and Christina Stilianos

Lahser Math Team Takes Third Place
CONGRATULATIONS:
Congratulations to the Lahser Math Club for their third place finish at the 40th annual Math Field Day sponsored by the University of Michigan-Flint
On Tuesday, February 28, the Lahser Math Club finished in third place at the 40th annual Math Field Day. This was the first time that Lahser had entered the prestigious math competition that is attended by many of the top academic schools in the state. This year was the largest turnout ever at the Math Field Day event with 37 schools in attendance. The team was comprised of Lahser students Ajay Tandon (team captain), Dushy Srinivasan, Sam Luo, Tyler Kim, and Seong Hwang (who also took first in the individual competition called "The Madhatter"). The Lahser Math Club used strong performances in the "Swiss game", the "Huddle" and the "Relay Race" to achieve high marks in their division. Lahser was also presented five math related books that will be donated to the Lahser Media Center.

Lahser Senior Wins National Award

Congratulations to Senior, Meredith Reynolds for winning 2006 Outstanding Youth of the Year Award
Congratulations to Lahser Senior Meredith Reynolds for receiving the Community Anti-Drug
Coalitions of America (CADCA)'s 2006 Outstanding Youth of the Year Award. Meredith will be receiving this award in Washington D.C. later this month. Meredith has been an outstanding student leader in the Birmingham Bloomfield Community Coalition.

"Forgetting is Fatal", Lahser student's entry was selected as one of the top two.
CONGRATULATIONS:
Congratulations to Junior, Jennifer Pellerito on her award winning video
Jennifer Pellerito, Lahser (junior), has won the national video competition which was co-sponsored by Volkswagen and Scholastic titled "Fasten Your Seatbelts: Go Far!" The competition invited students from across the country to create an original thirty second public service announcement demonstrating the benefits of wearing a seatbelt. Hundreds of entries were submitted. Jennifer's entry, "Forgetting is Fatal," was selected as the top entry. Her message was that people forget a lot of things, but posed the question; "how can you forget the thing that might save your life?" As the winner, Jennifer will receive a $12,000 savings bond. Video teacher Donna Learmont will receive $1,000 to be used on Scholastic materials for the school and a camcorder. 19 Lahser students win awards in the 2007 Scholastic Art Award Competition
CONGRATULATIONS:
Congratulations to 19 of the Lahser Visual Arts Students who were recognized at the 2007 Scholastic Art Award Competition
On  Friday, January 5th at Detroit Country Day School 19 of Lahser's Visual Art Students won various awards and certificates for their creative work submitted in this prestigeous competition. It is conducted by Scholastic Magazine, Inc. and the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers, Inc., with the cooperation of public-spirited sponsors at the regional
and national level. The most outstanding student art works are awarded the highest award, Gold Key, followed by Silver Key and Certificate of Merit. The Gold Key winning art works from the Regional Level are sent to New York City in the spring for additional awards and honors in the National High School Art Exhibition.

You will be able to personally view the work of these talented Lahser Art Students during the Scholastic Show which will be on February 3, 2007 at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit.

Lahser's Knightsingers participate in the MSVMA Regional Honors Choir

CONGRATULATIONS:
Congratulations to the members of the Lahser Knightsingers who participated in a fantastic concert on Saturday as members of the MSVMA Regional Honors Choir!!
Kristen Dittus, Bo-Young Kim, Jen Morgan, Marie Nelson, Amanda Sultan, and Nick Ward performed, along with approximately 150 other singers from eastern Michigan, in a concert at Northville High School.. Auditions were held during the course of the day for the State Honors Choir, and three of the Knightsingers were chosen for this honor!! Congratulations to Jen Morgan, Marie Nelson, and Nick Ward, who will be participating as members of the State Honors Choirs at DeVos Hall in Grand Rapids in January, as part of the Michigan Music Teachers Annual Conference!! Jen will be singing in the SATB Choir, Marie in the SSAA Choir, and Nick in the TTBB choir. Lahser has good reason to be proud of all of our terrific singers!!!

Senior Golfer named Dr.Pepper Athlete of the month
CONGRATULATIONS:
Congratulations to Lahser senior golfer, Chris Matthew who was named the Oakland Press/Dr. Pepper Athlete of the month for the month of October.
Congratulations to Lahser senior golfer, Chris Matthew who was named the Oakland Press/Dr. Pepper Athlete of the month for the month of October.  Chris led the Lahser Knights to a 9th place finish in the state this season by shooting an impressive 71 in the first round followed by a 72 in the second round.  Chris will be featured in an upcoming article in the Oakland Press.  In addition to his personal recognition, Lahser Athletics will be honored to receive a check in the amount of $250 from Dr. Pepper in recognition of Chris’s accomplishment.

Lahser's Model UN Team
CONGRATULATIONS:
The Lahser's Model UN Team captured 4 out of the 6 prestigious Best Delegate Awards at the 2006 International Academy's Model UN Conference.
In only its second conference   In addition to a bundle of committee specific awards, team members Laura Tyson, Sierra Eschrich, and Jessica Kraft along with Andover member Sandra Fadel captured 4 out of the 6 prestigious Best Delegate Awards up for grabs at the competition. 

Congratulations to everyone involved in starting off this year's competitive season with a terrific performance.

2006 Cross Country Team
CONGRATULATIONS:
The cross country team’s competed at the state finals on November 4th 2006.
The boys team placed 6th out of 28 schools and had two runners earn all-state honors:
       • Nick Krol placed 19th
       • Joey Grace placed 27th
This is the first all-state honor for Krol and the second for Grace.

Also, the Cross Country Boys team earned academic all-state honors with a team g.p.a. of 3.727.
